My shadow

Have you ever seen your own shadow? Can it have different sizes or shapes?

But, what is a shadow?

Now that you have learnt about your shadow, watch the video on the poem Robert Louis Stevenson wrote about it.

And here you have the whole text, in case you want to read the poem while you listen to it...

But why reading again today Stevenson's poetry? Because we are celebrating the 160 anniversay of his birth. Isn't it great to read him again as we are fans of his children's poetry?

Europe Day

On We like English blog we have always fostered plurilingualism and pluricultarilism. So we specially love this year's poster for the celebration of Europe Day.

My favourite mix: people, places, cultures

And in our mix, we also have languages... because we like learning lots of them . Do you remember? At leats two foreign langauges! How many are you learning?

But we should remind our leaders to improve a fairer world for all too.
What does Europe do for the world? Read this story of Mathias and Amadou and learn about Europe and Africa's co-operation.
And teachers can find the teacher's guide here too.

World Book Day

It would be a great way to celebrate World Book Day if you decided to read an English author! Why not?

For example, what about Roald Dahl? I'm sure you have heard about his fabulous stories for children.

And this is my suggestion, The Twits. It's such a funny book on two strange hairy characters...Here you've got a trick of the Twits, but you will find many more in the book.

Today, here in Eivissa, we are celebrating the Balearic Islands' Day. But we aren't the only ones in the world celebrating their day. It's Wales' Day too!

1st March is Saint David's Day, patron saint of Wales.

What do you know about Wales? Click on the picture to learn more about this country in the UK.

In Wales they speak English but they have got their own language, like here in Eivissa.
Do you know the name of the language of Wales? Try to guess it from the web.

Who else has the same dream?

Let's see another example of fighting for ideas and freedom peacefully.

Nelson Mandela has the same dream as Ghandi and Martin Luther King.

"No one is born hating another person"

Now try to understand the different things that, according to Mandela,we don't naturally hate people for.

"Man's goodness is the flame that can never be extinguished"

Is peace your dream too?

Every 30th January we celebrate the School Day of Non-violence and Peace.

Why? Because we commemorate the day when Mahatma Ghandi was killed. He believed in non-violence to fight for human rights.

And in USA they observe another day in January as a date for peace, 15th January, because Martin Luther King was born that day in 1929

But, what do they have in common?
They stood up against things that were unfair... but peacefully! They had a dream and they fought for it with non-violence and peace.

Now, listen and learn on Martin Luther King Jr.:

Martin Luther King had a dream, a dream of peace. Is peace your dream too?
